Click for camping mapThis map has been designed for campers who enjoy free/independent camping. Free camping includes National and State Parks which may attract a fee.

This free camping map has been designed so that anyone is able to add/edit/delete places. Please ensure accuracy when completing the location.

It was launched in August 2008 with the initial help of many individuals from a few caravanning forums.

Remember that this site has been designed for you. Please feel free to contribute by either adding new sites or modifying those sites already there with more accurate or thorough information.

To view the map either click on the Australia picture to the right or "Map of Camping Sites" in the navigation bar.

Cheers

OzCamps site went live at the end of August 2008. There are a number of different technologies being used. The maps are created using Google Maps. The information is stored on a MySQL database using PHP (programming language) scripting. Then I use PHP to convert this information into an XML format so that I can use JavaScript and Google Maps to create the map as JavaScript can't access the MySQL database by itself. For those of you interested in creating something similar here is the Basic XML tutorial by Mike Williams which also includes a basic example upon which the OzCamps map is based.
